Iran’s UNESCO World Heritage reaches to 21
UNESCO inscribed the Lut Desert on the World Heritage List during their 40th session in Istanbul. The mysterious beauty and universally unique characteristics of Lut make this desert a valuable legacy for the entire world.
Lut Desert or Dasht-e Lut, a salt desert in Kerman and Sistan and Baluchestan province in east and southeast of Iran, is the world’s 26th largest desert with an area of 52000 square kilometers.
In 2005 NASA reported the highest temperature 70 °C (159 °F), for a location on Earth, was read in the Lut Desert. The extreme temperature has resulted in no life of any kind in most parts of this region.
One of the phenomena in Lut is its Kaluts. These tall strange looking sand formations that are shaped by centuries of water and soil erosion create spectacular scenery in the desert giving a real sense of isolation.
