Matinabad Desert Eco-Camp and Organic Farm founded in 2008 by a group of naturalists and tourism experts. The basic premises on establishing Matinabad Eco-Camp was to present, maintain, contribute and promote considering, respecting and conducting the ethic codes of the international Tourism and Ecotourism organizations in order to approach for CSR and SRB models and achieve to sustainable and Responsible Tourism in I.R.IRAN.

It is located close to the Dasht -e- Kavir, Iran’s largest National Park and Salt Lake in one side and the highest central mountains, Karkas in the other side.

As the first Iranian Eco- Camp, we offer unforgettable adventures close to the local people and the desert nature. Baking bread or cooking with the local women, harvesting in our Organic farm and orchards or Treks on camel or on foot, bike rides through landscapes of sand dunes and mountain gorges, desert walks, safari short trips with Jeeps or ATV bikes and star gazing at night are included in our Camp activities.


You will be greeting at the entering door of the main building which is designed like a Carnanseraei. The Main building of the Complex is equipped with seven big rooms including bathroom with Hot showers and flush western toilets, Wooden beds with soft mattress, air conditioner, refrigerator and a TV set. There are two beds in each room and it is possible to add one extra bed.

Top of the roof, there is an elegant suite located with a similar interior design and facilities of the rooms but with a capacity of minimum four with a panoramic view of the Desert, farms and yards. It is called Shah Neshin (King’s Room). Adorning lush Persian fabrics in elegantly designed rooms with picturesque desert views at Matinabad  Eco-camp complete your Iran trip experience. The interior design of rooms is based on the traditional Iranian desert houses where a combination of thatch, break and plaster is used in decoration.

Gooshvareh (Earring room)

This beautiful room is known as Gooshvareh (Earring room) in Safavid architecture. Gooshvareh rooms are located on both sides of the Shah Neshin. Shah Neshin room (the seat of kings) was designed and built for hosting special guests of the family and Gooshvareh was built to structurally support the dome of Shah Neshin and if there was going to be a big party in the house and the Shah Neshin was full, a number of the guests will stay in the Gooshvareh.


You will stay in an elegant traditional Iranian desert nomad tent equipped with mosquito nets for warm weather and with Korsi (Iranian style heating) or heater for the colder months.Tents are set up on a bench to produce minimal environmental impact while providing an efficient thermal and wind resistant unit, with great exposure to nature in our magnificent area.
The tents are set up with enough space between them to provide adequate privacy. The location is close to the main building, bath and wash rooms. Electricity is available in the tents. Rug, Mattress, Pillow, blanket, and sheets are available according to the number of people reserved for that tent.

Koome ( Hut Room)

Koomeh in Persian refers to small rooms in a desert that in the past farmers built them to protect their land or hunters to hunt their prey. Matinabad eco-camp has 13 Koomehs now. Mtinabad Koomeh’s are built with brick and muds and the roof has a dome shape for the best natural air circulation in the room. These rooms are equipped with air-conditioners and heaters. Koomehs are supplied by 2-beds that have the possibility of adding one more if needed.


Traditional Restaurant construction in the camp which is designed locally consists of a big Saloon suitable for 100 persons, Kitchen and lavatories. External courtyard is suitable for relaxing and enjoying the night sky after dinner.

Restaurant is surrounded by spectacular scenery of sand hills, green farmlands, and part of Camel House where you can easily watch the camels ready for rides. Equipped kitchen and barbeque are available to use for 160 persons simultaneously. We usually serve local and seasonal food and dinner is often made on a barbeque.

Matin Abad Camp takes pride in the highest standard of service and cuisine. Meals, which include traditional Persian dishes, are served in an authentic oversized pan. Food and supplies are mostly the product of the organic farm of the Camp and we provide this remote region with opportunities for economic growth through responsible tourism. Availability of products varies depending on the season. However, you can expect that we will provide the best available selection of local dishes and traditional specialties for the Western palate. We can also make special arrangements for most dietary needs—please contact us to discuss your specific requirements. Purely organic food like local chicken, camel meat and milk are also available.

Matin Baba Tea House

The Desert Bar offers soft drinks and other beverages. A wide variety of mineral waters, organic fruit juice (such as pomegranate) and soft drinks are stocked to quench any ‘desert thirst’, together with an extensive range of local finest beverages such as Mint Juice, Egyptian Willow water, Rose water, etc. which also have medical benefits.
