NYU Fine Arts Museum’s Director in Iran after Fifty Years

A group from Grey Art Gallery, New York University’s museum, traveled to Iran for the first time, after Abby Grey, to visit museums, art galleries, and historical sites of the country on March of 2016. The Grey Art Gallery has the largest collection of modern Iranian art outside of Iran that was collected by Abby Weed Grey in 1960s and 70s. Currently the galley is holding an exhibition called Global/Local 1960–2015: Six Artists from Iran that features paintings, sculpture, drawings, installation, and videos of three generations of Iranian artists.

The group consisted of professional artists, art collectors, and Ms. Lynn Gumpert, the director of New York University’s. They were interested in contemporary Iranian art and wanted to visit and understand the country and culture which the Iranian artists came from.

They joined the opening of the Belgian artist Wim Delvoye at Tehran Contemporary Art Museum, Iran National Museum, world heritage Golestan Palace, galleries of young artists who are not well known, numerous ancient sites such as bazaars, gardens, tombs of Persian poets, Persepolis, Emam Square, mosques, and Madrasas.

After visiting Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, and Kashan they left with a collection of modern art work they bought from Iranian artists in Iran.
